He has held a wide range of roles of increasing responsibility and influence with experience in Enterprise IT, Enterprise Architecture, Advanced Marketing, Advanced Manufacturing, and Advanced Product Engineering, garnering success in both operational and strategic roles.
After a few years as a Civil Engineer focused on airport infrastructure, Mark’s career at John Deere started by building its Internet and Web infrastructure to enable more efficient processes for employees, dealers, and customers. As Information & Communication Technology has become pervasive, he has worked globally at John Deere’s data centers, factory floors, with suppliers, with dealers, and with customers. Currently, he leads a group of engineers, scientists and data scientists that are using technology to improve the sustainability of customers’ operations by making John Deere equipment smarter. His group is focused on how to sense things like soil, seeds, plants, and crop residue, which drives our solutions toward plant-level management and unlocks new business models as well.
He has a BS in General Engineering from the University of Illinois, an MBA from the University of Iowa, an SM in System Design & Management from MIT (Thesis: A Study in Product-Service Systems Strategies), and a PhD in Informatics from the University of Illinois (Dissertation: Stakeholder Representation in the CEO’s Letter to Shareholders).
